Best Practices for Dow 1547 HVIC
-
Surface Preparation
DOW CORNING 1547 HVIC should be applied in several coats over a clean, dry surface. Any surface previously coated with a silicone grease should be cleaned thoroughly before applying the coating.
-
Application
Before use, DOW CORNING 1547 HVIC should be thoroughly agitated on a paint shaker or can roller to ensure uniformity. DOW CORNING 1547 HVIC should be applied in several coats over a clean, dry surface. Any surface previously coated with a silicone grease should be cleaned thoroughly before applying the coating. Surfaces other than glass or porcelain may require use of a primer to ensure adhesion. Consult Dow Corning Technical Service and Development for primer recommendations. DOW CORNING 1547 HVIC Insulator Coating can be reapplied to previously coated surfaces after pressure water washing. The product is normally spray applied, but can be applied by brushing or dipping. An average dry thickness of 20mm (0.020 inch) is recommended on insulators. Several sprayed coats are needed to attain this average. Depending on temperature and humidity, full cure takes 2 to 6 hours. Additional coats can be applied after 20 to 30 minutes. For dilution, a high flash point >38°C (100°F) naphtha spirits solvent is recommended. Acceptable solvents include Kwik Dri Naphtha Spirits 66 from Ashland Chemical and Solvent 360 from Shell Oil. Equipment recommendations can be obtained from Dow Corning.
